Self-Care is a Constant Process

Today is the 3rd day of an amazing conference.  I am exhausted. It has been 13-hour days. It has been intense and full of important information.  I am feeling torn about whether to get up and go for another 13-hour day or stay home and rest.  I don’t want to miss a moment and I want to be in the energy of that room.

I take a few moments to be honest about my energy level, which is low.  I think about my options which are stay and live-stream the conference on my computer or pop up and rush down to the conference and find a good seat.

I choose self-care and stay home.  It is the best alternative in light of my energy level.  It seems like such an easy choice but for a moment I feel like I am being weak by not being in that conference room.

As it turns out, I sleep during the breaks and during lunch as I live-stream.  I needed to stay home!  I am able to be more present during the live stream because I stayed home.

As I learn over and over again, self-care is a daily practice.  Self-care can be massages and hot bath.  But what I am learning is that self-care is so much more basic. It is protecting my energy level, getting rest when I need it, feeding myself during the day, laughing and playing and taking quiet time.

The more I pay attention to my needs in each moment, the sweeter my life becomes.  Today it was attending the conference from home.
