When you were young, did you admire any of your friend’s parents?

I did.  I was fortunate to have some wonderful role models in my friend’s parents.  I was on sports teams between the ages of five and eighteen.  Since I was raised by a single mom with two very busy kids, carpooling was key to getting us both to all of our games. There were many times one of my friend’s parents would give me a ride, or look after me in some way.  I grew up in a great community of people that looked after one another.  I was really appreciative, even as a kid.

So when I saw one of on my friend’s parents today, I was thrilled! It brought back so many memories of how well I was taken care of by her as a child.  It reminded me of how many times over the years I received support, words of praise and guidance for whatever I was going on in my life.

I am grateful to her and all the parents that looked after me over the years.  They helped to shape who I became and am still becoming.
